TUIFAHAMU MKURANGA YETU VYEMA
Mkuranga is one of the 6 districts of the Pwani Region of Tanzania. It is bordered to the north by Dar es Salaam, to the east by the Indian Ocean, to the south by the Rufiji District, and to the east by the Kisarawe District.
According to the 2002 Tanzania National Census, the population of the Mkuranga District was 187,428.
The
people of Mkuranga primarily belong to four ethnic groups — the Zaramo,
Ndengereko, Matumbi and Makonde. Most people live in poor and simple houses
thatched by grass or coconut leaves, poles, and mud walls on earth floors. Fuel
wood is the major source of energy for cooking. The Mkuranga District has two
government health centers, fifteen government and ten private dispensaries.
Traditional health care systems that operate in the district include
traditional healers.
